Case Study - 1to3
1to3 are a UK charity that supports the community of Wellingara in the Gambia. 1to3 was founded by Meg Lyon and her late husband Ken in 2000 after a holiday trip to Gambia in November 1998. They visited a nursery school in Wellingara, where 150 children between the ages of 3 and 7, were working in tiny, hot, dark classrooms with few learning resources and poor sanitation. Meg and Ken were so affected by what they saw that they felt moved to do something to help improve the situation. They decided to raise money to build a new nursery school at a different site and sponsor a child. This was the beginning of 1to3 which registered as a charity in 2000. Since then it has grown and grown and the Wellingara Community Nursery School now provides education and support to over 400 children in Wellingara village.
The Gambian charity had owned it's own domain since 2002, but had never had a website. We offered to build the website for them as all their donations are used to support the Wellingara community. They had some content in the form of newsletters and sponsorship documentation but did not really know where to start with creating a website. So we used all the information that was provided and created the content for the website. Once this was reviewed and approved we then created some designs for 1to3 to review. We agreed the final design as the way forward and set about building the website. Thankfully one of 1to3 Trustees had some wonderful digital images from previous visits to the school and the area which we were able to incorporate into the website.
We used the orange tones from the logo, but kept the site clean and fresh and are currently in the process of adding the ability for visitors to donate to the charity using PayPal. The website has already generated a lot of interest for charity. Find out more about 1to3 in the Gambia . Springmedia donated this website to help 1to3 communicate with their sponsors and donors.
